Jeanerette mayor says upgrades to inside City Hall are long overdue

IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Plans are finally in the works to bring a new, modernized look to Jeanerette City Hall.

City Hall opened in 1967. Although there have been some renovations since then, Jeanerette Mayor Carol Bourgeois Jr. said upgrades are needed to allow business to flow easier and make City Hall a safer place for employees.

"This is a 1960s layout building. Some of the material is that old you know," the mayor said.

While it is desired for the building to be more functional, the number one priority is security.

"We've got to secure it up with, you know, some better doors and security type doors and all those types of things," Bourgeois said.

Bourgeois credits outgoing State Senator Bret Allain with bringing the project to fruition with capital outlay funds, because the project is estimated to cost around $1.1 million dollars.

"It's still very functional, but it still needs to be upgraded and brought into the 2000," the mayor said.

These plans are in the beginning stages, but Bourgeois said he hopes the project will begin soon.
