Which Bachelorette Producer Proposed This Idea?
Spoilers follow for the finale of The Bachelorette season 21.
“Devin Strader, welcome to the bachelorette Hall of LAME!” a fan tweeted shortly after the finale of The Bachelorette season 21 aired on ABC. The September 3 episode revealed that 25-year-old physician’s assistant student Jenn Tran proposed to Strader … but that he later broke off the engagement over the phone and followed her former Bachelor castmate Maria Georgas on Instagram the next day. Unsurprisingly, Strader immediately became an enemy in the eyes of much of Bachelor Nation. The sentiment under his latest Instagram post is pretty much what you’d expect (“these comments are so mean ???????????????????? please listen to them ♥️????????,” reads one message with more than 1,500 likes). But a lot of the internet’s ire is currently also directed at the reality show’s producers for thinking that it would be acceptable to have an already teary Tran rewatch her loving proposal while sitting next to Devin in front of a live audience. Remember how excited she was to get to be the “main character” as the first Asian American Bachelorette? We get the feeling that this isn’t how she was hoping the story would end.
