Two-year-old girl in critical condition after being hit by car

The two-year-old girl hit by a car in Limassol is intubated at Makario hospital with a brain haemorrhage, police spokesman Christos Andreou said on Wednesday.

He said the accident which unfolded on Tuesday afternoon at Makarios Avenue happened when the child saw her father across the street and excitedly tried to reach him.

She had been on the pavement with her mother before seeing her father on the opposite side of the road.

Speaking to the state broadcaster, Andreou said in her excitement, the two-year-old girl leaped into the street and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver, a 39-year-old man, was not speeding and had tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

Andreou said the child was initially taken to Limassol general hospital but due to the severity of the situation was transferred to Makario hospital.
