Rainfall at 67 per cent of average
Rainfall in Cyprus from the beginning of the month until Tuesday reached 67 per cent compared to the average for the same period throughout the years, based on historical data collected from 1961 to 1990.
The figure is linked to extremely low dam levels due to ongoing drought conditions on the island.
Furthermore, according to data from the Met Office, as of 9am on Wednesday, rainfall since the start of the hydrological year on October 1, 2023, stands at 71 per cent compared to the average cumulative rainfall for the same period in past years
Specifically, over the last 24 hours, a total of 0.2 millimetres of rain was recorded across 17 stations in Cyprus, bringing the total rainfall for the month to 3 millimetres.
The highest rainfall percentages since the start of the month were recorded at the Athienou station, which reported 229 per cent of the normal levels, followed by Lythrodontas at 75 per cent and Frenaros at 67 per cent. Rainfall levels at other stations remain very low, with several stations reporting no rainfall at all.
