Report: Sergio Reguilon has six countries to choose from if he wants Spurs exit
Tottenham have carried out quite the exodus this summer, with 15 players leaving in various different deals. But, one fringe player still remains, and here’s a look at how Sergio Reguilon could still make a move away despite the English transfer window closing.
Reguilon could still move around Europe
Reguilon has spent the last two years out on loan, at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford. The Spaniard was not included in Ange Postecoglou‘s pre-season squad and had been largely expected to leave the club this summer.
But, the English, Spanish, German, and Italian transfer windows all closed on August 31, and the Dutch, Saudi, and Portuguese windows then closed on Monday.
So, what’s left for Reguilon as he seeks a Tottenham exit? Well, the Belgian and Polish transfer windows are still open until Friday, September 6, and the Croatian market closes a day before those — though, it’s unlikely the 27-year-old would settle for a move to those leagues.
The Greek window closes on September 11, while the Swiss window shuts a day later. However, the Turkish market has the longest to run, with clubs there able to sign players until September 13.
It is there that Reguilon likely has the most options, too. Besiktas have been linked with the full-back, and Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce could well emerge as a suitor.
No future at Spurs for Reguilon
Reguilon will have to find a move somewhere, or he faces a very cold exile at Spurs. Postecoglou has already made that very clear.
He told Football.London previously: “They don’t have to get integrated back to the squad. It’s their decisions. It’s pretty clear where they sit in terms of where we are as a squad and where we are as a team, but, you know, I’ve never been one to force people out.
“They’ve got decisions about their own careers and what they want to do, and if they’re still here, they’re still here. We’ll work around that scenario, but it certainly won’t affect the way we work in the first team.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I think a move to Turkey would be the most sensible and viable option for Reguilon. He could still join a club playing in Europe, and of the leagues still open for transfers, Turkey probably has the most competitive league.
