Structure fire in Pittsfield on Tuesday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- The Pittsfield Fire Department (PFD) reported responding to a structure fire on Woodlawn Avenue in Pittsfield on Tuesday. They responded just before 5 p.m.

PFD responded with Engines 2, 3, and 5 as well as Car 2 and Truck 2. Upon arrival, Engine 2 reported heavy fire showing on the exterior left side of the building going up to the second floor of the two-and-a-half-story building holding five apartments.

The main body of the fire was knocked down and brought under control in about an hour, according to PFD. Only apartment two sustained fire damage but the rest of the building sustained water and smoke damage.

Electricity and gas services were shut down in the building and five families were displaced by the fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries, but a family pet perished in the fire.

The American Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting the displaced families. The fire is currently under investigation by the PFD Fire Investigation Unit.
