‘Time capsule’ fast Ford that’s hardly been used in 18 years with ORIGINAL plastic packaging to sell for huge price

A STUNNING fast Ford that’s had its plastic packaging kept on it for nearly two decades can be all yours.

Described as a true time capsule, the sports car still retains its original delivery tags, stickers, and plastic cover – as well as boasting just 14.9 miles on the odometer.

A 2006 Ford GT, which was produced during the final year of the first-gen Ford GT’s lifecycle, is one of 541 produced in Tungsten Grey.

Built between 2005 and 2006, the Ford GT was the Ford’s tribute to their iconic GT40 race car – famous for its domination of the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1966 until 1969.

Indeed, the famous motor’s heroics were re-told in the 2019 film Ford v Ferrari, also known as Le Mans ’66, which starred Hollywood heroes Matt Damon and Christian Bale.

Engineers built the GT with a space-age aluminium chassis, while designers sculpted a windswept body that paid homage to the original, all the while tweaking the look for modern tastes.

Its engine is mid-mounted behind the two-seater cockpit, and under a clamshell-style hood the supercharged 5.4-litre V8 engine lies in waiting.

From the factory this motor made 550 bhp and 500 pound-feet of torque.

Its top speed is recorded at 205 mph, while it can hit 0-60mph in just 3.7 seconds.

Inside, the Ford GT features over-the-top retro styling that harkened back to the 1960s with long, flat expanses covered in circular vents, gauges, and metal rings built into the seats.

Available to buy from SBX Cars – a premium car dealership that’s part of the Supercar Blondie brand – the pristine motor has a current bid of $105,000, which roughly works out at £80,000.

From new, the GT was priced at £120,900, while today they’re known to fetch anywhere between £280,000 and £500,000.

With 14 days still to run on the iconic car’s auction, it could rise to an eye-watering sum.

Commenting on the listing, SBX Cars said: “Purchased by the second and current owner at auction in 2018, this Ford GT has since been part of a private collection and has been stored in climate-controlled storage.

“The seller will offer a complimentary oil change pre-delivery should the winning bidder wish to have the service performed.

“A true time capsule, this Ford GT retains the delivery seat covers, stickers, tags, and a spare key.

“This auction presents a unique opportunity to acquire what is without a doubt one of the finest low-mileage GTs in existence and an exceptional example of Ford’s pace car for an entire company.”

This comes as another legendary fast Ford – the Sierra Cosworth RS500 – is set to be reborn with an ultra-lightweight bodywork.

The sale of this Ford GT also comes just weeks after a Ford Focus RS that was kept in storage for 21 years went up for sale at the Silverstone Festival.
