US supports Pakistan in counterterrorism amid escalating violence in Balochistan
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, has condemned the attack on civilians in Balochistan and stated that Washington stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Pakistan in counterterrorism efforts.
Geo News Pakistan reported on Thursday, September 4th, citing Matthew Miller, that the U.S. has declared support for Pakistan in combating terrorism.
According to Mr. Miller, the U.S. and Pakistan share “common interests” in addressing security threats in the region.
He strongly condemned last week’s deadly attack in Balochistan, where 23 civilians were killed.
Last week, Baloch quasi-militants known as the “Baloch Liberation Army” attacked police stations, railway lines, and vehicles on major highways in the Musa Khel area of Balochistan.
Reports indicate that over 50 people were killed and at least 60 others injured as a result of these attacks.
Yesterday, the Institute for Peace Studies in Pakistan also reported an increase in terrorist attacks in Pakistan, stating that 84 individuals have been killed in attacks over the past month.
According to the institute, 29 attacks occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 28 in Balochistan, and two others in Punjab province during the past month.
The escalating violence in Balochistan underscores the complex security challenges facing both Pakistan and the international community. With the United States reaffirming its commitment to supporting Pakistan in counterterrorism efforts, the region faces a critical juncture in addressing these threats and ensuring the safety of civilians.
The recent attacks highlight the urgent need for coordinated efforts to enhance security measures and mitigate the impact of terrorist activities on local communities.
