11 Afghan citizens executed in Iran last month

The Iran Human Rights Organization emphasized that executions of Afghan citizens in Iran have increased since the Taliban took power, with 11 Afghan citizens executed in the past month.

The organization published a report on Tuesday, September 3rd, stating that Iran executed 100 individuals in August of this year alone.

According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, the rate of executions in Iran has escalated, with at least 402 individuals, including 31 Afghan citizens, executed in the first eight months of this year, and 11 of them were executed last month.

The report specified that among those executed were 11 Afghan citizens, eight Baloch individuals, and nine Kurdish individuals.

UN human rights experts also expressed concern on Monday, September 2nd, over a “significant” increase in executions in Iran, noting that 400 individuals, including 15 women, have been executed in the country since the beginning of this year.

The organization has called on Iranian authorities to halt the execution of all death row prisoners.

According to Amnesty International, Iran accounted for 74% of all recorded executions worldwide last year.
