North Topeka house fire causes $13,000 in damage

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Topeka firefighters doused a house fire Wednesday morning that caused thousands of dollars in damage.

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka announced in a press release that fire crews were called around 9:15 a.m. on Sept. 4 to an address in the 1500 block of North Kansas Avenue on reports of a house fire. Firefighters arriving at the home found smoke and flames coming from the back of the home and put it out quickly.

People inside the home were able to exit prior to the arrival of fire crews. No injuries are being reported in association with this fire.

Nichols said investigators determined the fire's origins were incendiary, initially starting on the exterior back side of the house. The fire caused an estimated $13,000 loss. No working smoke detectors were located in the home.
