Metroland returning to Capital Region in digital format

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Metroland, Albany's alternative newsweekly that brought arts and artists to light for people to find reviews of concerts and what was happening artistically in the region for nearly 40 years, is returning to the Capital Region in a digital format. It will be called Metroland Now.

NEWS10 was able to speak with Erin Harkes, the refounder of this publication and former Metroland covergirl herself, on Wednesday about this launch. Harkes says that this revival will be "a little apolitical" and focus on the music culture and scene this time around.

Harkes said she really started to pursue this project in February and even more actively in April. She was able to get the name and the rights to the publication for the revival.

People can expect the central focus of the site to be a thorough, comprehensive events calendar so everyone can have one place to see what's going on in the region, according to Harkes. The publication will be completely digital to start, but Harkes says the plan is to bring a monthly print issue into circulation in the future.

"My plan is to start small and grow slow. I want it to build as organically as possible with good feedback from the community," said Harkes.
