Bexley butcher shop is set to open a North Market location

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A North Market shop opening soon is the partnership between a local butcher and the owner of a "staple" inside the food hall Downtown.

Macelleria North Market Butchery is expected to open in September, with a social media post from the North Market announcing it would be coming soon after Labor Day. Phillip Clary, the owner of the shop, has an extensive culinary background, according to the post. He also runs the Macelleria East Side Butchery in Bexley.

Teaming up with Clary is Ian Holmes, the owner of COLO Seafood and Oyster Bar and COLO Burger Bar, which the North Market called a staple of its community.

"Both Clary and Holmes share a deep respect for each other's craft and are excited to collaborate on this venture," the post said.

The butcher shop will be cutting fresh pork and beef daily. In addition, Macelleria's expanded product list includes chicken, lamb, and items made in house like Bolognese, ragus, stews and chilis. It also has ticketed tasting dinners planned for the future, and other promotions like a seafood subscription box in collaboration with COLO.

Once in operation sometime this month, Macelleria will be open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Recently, Littleton's Market Bakery opened in the southwest corner of the North Market. The expansion of an Upper Arlington grocery store opened in 2013, it will include a baking production facility, retail bakery and café.

Construction is currently underway for an expansion of the North Market, in which it will gain 15,000 square feet over two stories. That will create room for eight or nine new vendors. In addition to this, a 32-story tower called the Merchant Building will be built on the site.
