Newsmax reporter says Georgia school shooting victim died in arms of her brother-in-law
Newsmax correspondent Carolyn Ryan revealed that her brother-in-law was in a classroom in Georgia Wednesday when a student reportedly opened fire.
Following the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ryan said she had been in contact with the family member on a group chat.
"We got a text message from him at about 10:28 this morning on a family group thread and just said the terrifying words, school shooting, in my room, in his classroom," Ryan said.
"He said about five kids in his classroom were shot. He said one of them, unfortunately, did pass away."
"And our family member tried to kind of build a barricade around that student, took off his shirt, and tried to stop the bleeding on that child," she continued.
"He said there was another teacher in the classroom who tended to the other students who had been shot while he was tending to the one that ultimately ended up passing away."
Ryan said her brother-in-law was "still in shock."
"He said he saw the gunman enter through the back of the room and had a rifle, looked to be like an AR-15 rifle," she told Newsmax. "He said he fired multiple shots and just said it was terrifying. And obviously, he's devastated and feels like a little bit responsible."
"He said the gunman even pointed the gun directly at him and didn't pull the trigger," she added.

Ryan said the teacher could not confirm reports that the shooter was a 14-year-old male.
"According to my brother-in-law, he is 100% certain it was a student," she noted. "He said he couldn't be sure whether it was a female or a male, but he's 100% confident that it was a student."

At least four people were killed in the shooting and several more injured, officials said. The suspected shooter is in custody.
