'Am I hearing a little twang?' Karine Jean-Pierre lightly hits back at Fox News reporter

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre seized an opportunity to make a quick joke Thursday at the expense of Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, who a day earlier had questioned how Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at a news briefing.

Doocy, whose questioning has often resulted in drama during press briefings, had questioned on Tuesday why Harris' accent sometimes sounds slightly different from one event to another, including while addressing two different events in Detroit and Pittsburgh — a phenomenon known as "code-switching" that's a common part of communication between people who move between different settings.

"Since when does the Vice President have what sounds like a Southern accent?" Doocy asked, to which Jean-Pierre responded, "Do you think Americans seriously think that this is an important question?" calling it "insane" and adding, "We are so moving on."

During Wednesday's briefing, Jean-Pierre was ready when Doocy asked another question.

"President Biden's approval rating is soaring, it's up 13 percent all the way to 48 percent," he said. "Does it bother the president that people are so pleased that he's retiring?"

"Am I hearing a little twang in your voice?" Jean-Pierre lightly jabbed.

"I know better," replied Doocy, to the general laughter of the rest of the White House press briefing room.
