National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame names interim board chair
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame voted for the Board of Trustees member Charlotte Weber to be the interim board chair of the museum. The appointment comes after the passing of Chairman John Hendrickson on Monday, Aug. 19.
Weber joined the board as a trustee in 2001 and has been a horserace breeder and owner for over half a century. In 1968, Weber bought the 1,100 acre Live Oak Plantation in Ocala, Florida, from Peter A. B. Widener III, expanding the grounds to 4,500 acres and creating one of the most acclaimed thoroughbred farms in the country.
Live Oak Stud has accumulated 1,014 wins with purse earnings of over $62 million. Weber's thoroughbred farm has produced several Florida Horse of the Year winners, including Miesque's Approval, Sultry Song, and World Approval, and nine of the farm's horses have individually produced $1 million in earnings.
Weber was honored as the National Owner of the Year in 2005 by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. The same year, she also received the Penny Chenery Most Distinguished Woman in Racing award.
Some of Weber's grade-one winners include High Fly, My Typhoon, Solar Splendor, Win Win Win, Zo Impressive, and more. In addition to horseracing, she has served on boards such as the Campbell Soup Co., Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Women's Foundation, and others.
