Fisher-Price Recalls Nearly 400,000 Fitness Toys Over Safety Hazard

Fisher-Price is recalling nearly 400,000 models of a toy which may pose a choking hazard for infants, according to a statement posted on the company's Instagram.

The famed toy manufacturer issued a voluntary recall on roughly 366,200 toy dumbbells which are sold with the Fisher-Price Baby Biceps Gift Set. The dumbbells include gray caps on either side which may possibly pop off, posing a choking risk for small children. No injuries have been reported due to the malfunction, but the company has received 11 complaints throughout North America saying that the caps have come loose from the product.

The gift set retailed for around $18 and was sold at Walmart, Kohl's, Fred Meyer, Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, TJMaxx, Buy Buy Baby, and Target stores throughout America. Sets were also sold through online retailers such as Amazon, Walmart.com, Zulily, Target, and other websites, from April 2020 through August 2024.

The other gym-themed toys in the set—which include a kettlebell with a teething handle, a wearable headband, and a faux protein shake—have not been recalled and are safe for children of all ages to play with.

Fisher-Price urges those who purchased the set to confirm the affected model number, GJD49, on the back of the kettlebell toy. If your model number matches, contact Mattel’s website to receive instructions on how to receive a refund.

"Once the consumer provides confirmation that the dumbbell toy will be disposed of as directed, the consumer will be paid $10 for the dumbbell toy only," Fisher-Price explained in a statement. "Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required to receive a refund for the dumbbell."

The company continued: "We remain committed to educating parents and caregivers on the safe use of all of our products, including the importance of following all warnings and instructions to ensure the health and safety of babies and children.”
