Kodai Senga Intensifies Rehab; Blackburn Set To Return In Toronto
As the New York Mets continue their hot streak Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox the team announced positive starting pitching news. Per SNY’s Anthony DiComo, Paul Blackburn will return to the starting rotation in Toronto and Kodai Senga is ramping up the intensity in his rehab.
After Senga went down due to a left calf strain the Mets reacted by acquiring Paul Blackburn at the MLB trade deadline from the Oakland A’s in order to keep the starting rotation a float. Before Blackburn landed on the injured list with a right hand contusion he had a 5.18 ERA in five starts for the Mets. With Blackburn set to be back in the rotation it can be assumed that Tylor Megill will be the odd man out upon his return.
As for Senga this is a step in the right direction as he continues to battle back given the Mets current standings in the National League Wild Card. He threw 25 pitches in his bullpen on Wednesday and noticeably looked more intense.
“He looks good… The way the ball was coming out, it was good to see him in full uniform and actually letting it go. Good step for him today,” Carlos Mendoza said.
It is important to note that Senga still has some time before a possible timeline of his return, but Mendoza feels confident in his progression. He will continue to throw bullpens and the team will reevaluate when necessary.
