Arsenal keeper joins Saints

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has officially fellow joined Premier League outfit Southampton. The keeper has moved for an initial £18m fee, potentially rising to £25m with add-ons. He has put pen to paper a four-year-deal at St.Mary’s, with the option of an additional year’s extension built into the contract.

Ramsdale has found first time opportunities hard to come by at Arsenal since the arrival of Spaniard David Raya from Brentford. Raya initially joined the Gunners on loan, with the deal becoming permanent earlier this summer.

Ramsdale was part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad but was not named in the most recent Three Lions squad by interim manager Lee Carsley.

The 26-year-old returns to somewhat familiar surroundings, having previously plied his trade on the South Coast with Bournemouth.

Along with Ramsdale’s switch, there’s been a fair bit of movement in the Premier League goalkeeper market in the last few days of the window, with Sam Johnstone moving to Wolves and Kepa Arrizabalaga joining Bournemouth. Arsenal have in turn signed veteran Beto on loan from the Cherries.

Southampton, newly promoted to the top flight, have had a tough start to the 24/25 league season, losing both their games so far. They’re up in action against Brentford over the weekend followed by a clash against Man Utd after the international break
