Only Murders in the Building, which is available on Disney+ in the UK, has officially been picked up for another 10 episode season by US streamer Hulu.

Thrilled, fans of the show quickly took to social media to discuss the news.

“Yay Only Murders renewed for season 5,” one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“Wow, I’m so excited,” responded another.

A third added: “The greatest show ever is getting another season!”

While a fourth gushed: “OMG. My favourite show will have a season 5.”

Although there’s no release date for the fifth series yet, if it continues to follow previous seasons, fans can expect more episodes on screens next summer.

Series 4 is still currently airing, having premiered on Disney+ last week.

The series saw stars Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin return as true crime junkies Mabel, Oliver and Charles who are, unsurprisingly, caught up in yet another murder mystery.

This time, the podcasters are investigating the murder of Charles’s long-time stunt double Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch).

But the new series is marked by a major format twist, as the story moves from New York City to Los Angeles.

Series 4 debuted to a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes last week.

Critics have hailed it as the “best season yet,” and credited it with “elicit[ing] more laughs than any small-screen comedy since last year’s instalment.”

The award-winning comedy drama, which first premiered in 2021, has grown in popularity over the years.

Only Murders in the Building - Expert View

By TV Reporter Catriona Mactaggart

The cosy, quirky whodunnit series is going from strength to strength – but what makes it so successful?

There’s something about Only Murders in the Building that has captivated viewers across the globe. The show has received so much love that it was renewed for a fifth series just a week after series 4 premiered on Disney+.

The deaths in series may get slightly more outrageous – from Bunny being stabbed with a knitting needle at the end of series 1 to Ben’s double murder in series 3 – but there’s no denying Only Murders in the Building is a hit.

As someone who would usually opt for a fantasy series over a murder mystery, the Disney+ show immediately draws me in. For me, it’s the impressive setting of the Arconia, an Italian Renaissance–style building I would give anything to live in, the combination of Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin (who were all regular fixtures in my childhood thanks to their roles in Wizards of Waverly Place, The Santa Clause franchise and Cheaper By the Dozen, respectively), and the unexpected storylines that keeps me tuned into the series.

But I would have to say the epic casting is the biggest part of the show’s success.

The combination of Selena, Martin and Steve alone is gold dust, but show bosses have continued to surprise fans every season by throwing more big names in the mix.

Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy and Melissa McCarthy all in the same show? Yes, please!

Plus, with a murder mystery always more shocking than the last that keeps you guessing the whole way through the series – sadly I’ve yet to guess the murderer correctly – it’s no surprise that the show just keeps getting better and better. I’m excited to see what series 5 has to offer as series 4 will no doubt leave us with another shocking cliffhanger.

Throughout its run thus far, Only Murders in the Building has won four Emmys and received 49 total nominations. It has also earned 12 Golden Globe Award nominations over the years.

It has attracted some of the biggest names in Hollywood for guest roles, with the likes of Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy and Zach Galifianakis all gracing the small screen.
