In her viral video, TikTok user Afsennah (@afsennah) broke down the errors for her followers.

She revealed that the habits are proven to “sabotage your hair growth journey.”

For her first recommendation, Afsennah advised everyone against smoking.

She explained that the unhealthy addicition narrows blood vessels, limiting the nutrient supply to your hair.

The hair pro also explained the detrimental role stress can play on your locks.

While it is less easy to control than smoking, you need to ensure you avoid stress if you want to maintain healthy hair.

“Stress can push your hair follicles into a resting phase, causing more hair to fall out than usual,” she said.

“It can also mess with your hormones, which might lead to hair thinning or loss.”

Malnutrition can also have a negative effect on your hair, as well as other areas.

According to the expert, starving your hair of essential nutrients, minerals, and proteins can cause significant damage.

Your locks can become dry, brittle, and more prone to breakage as a result.

Excessively styling your hair with heat products such as straighteners, curlers, and hair dryers can also damage it.

High heat can cause damage such as split ends and breakage.

She added that this can also prevent your hair from growing longer over time.

Instead, the expert recommended letting your locks air dry every once in a while.

Hair loss tips

We can lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day, according to the NHS.

It is not usually something to worry about, but occasional it can be a sign of a medical concern.

These include illness, stress, cancer treatment, weight loss and iron deficiency.

The NHS advises to book an appointment with your GP to see if you can get to the cause of it.

Experts at American Academy of Dermatology Association also recommend to eat healthy, limit curling irons and only use them for special occasions.

They also recommend using a gentle shampoo, and make use of leave-in conditioners.

She also advised against wearing tight hairstyles, such as ponytails or buns, too often.

Afsennah revealed that the constant pulling can cause damage to your hair follicles, resulting in permanent hair loss.

Finally, she explained that not getting enough sleep can also prevent hair growth.

As well as contributing to stress, a lack of sleep can hinder growth as all parts of your body need rest to function.

Afsennah showed off her own long healthy locks to prove the results of following her tips.
