LASG TRAINS RETIRING CIVIL SERVANTS ON LIFE SKILLS 

The Lagos State Government has announced the successful completion of the Life Skills Economic Empowerment Programme, a short-term skill acquisition training initiative aimed at empowering retiring officers in the Lagos State Civil Service held at Women Development Centre, Agege.


Speaking at the Closing Ceremony recently, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Bolaji Dada said the initiative, which has been pivotal in Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration, reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating poverty and empowering the women of Lagos State. 


Hon. Dada explained that since its inception, the programme has trained over 15,000 beneficiaries in a variety of skills, including Makeup and Head Tying, Stoning, Barbing, Catering, Throw Pillow Making, Paint Production, Soap Making, Hairdressing, Event Planning, and Decoration. She added that participants were also provided with start-up packs to foster economic self-reliance.


Dada said, “This event is not just the end of a training programme but the beginning of new opportunities for each participant. The skills acquired here are invaluable, offering pathways to financial independence and a brighter future for our retirees”.


The Commissioner said, in addition to the core training, participants were equipped with entrepreneurial skills, received health talks, and were enrolled in the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (LASHMA). They also received training on environmental health and safety, ensuring that their future business practices are safe and sustainable.


Hon. Dada expressed deep gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his passionate support and dedication to poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment in Lagos State


While informing that the state government continues to support similar programmes across various communities, including ongoing training in Ikorodu, Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA, and upcoming initiatives in Ikeja and Ojo LGA, she reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering economic empowerment and improving the lives of all Lagosians.


The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo commended the facilitators and trainers whose expertise and commitment played a crucial role in the success of the programme. 


Kalesanwo also appreciated the retiring civil servants, saying their willingness to learn and adapt is commendable and hoped that the programme has provided them with the tools necessary for success in their post-service endeavours.
