Troy to use millions in federal funding for lead pipe removal

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Common Council voted Thursday night to allow almost $13 million in federal funds to go toward replacing lead pipes. The motion passed unanimously.

The mayor now has the authority to use the funds to replace the lead pipes throughout the city. The bonds are expected to be issued in January.

Lead has been linked to negative health effects. Several local cities, including Albany, Troy and Watervliet, have started to remove lead pipes from older buildings.
