Local pastor calls for an Acadiana-wide prayer revival 

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The Hub City community has been in mourning after recent shootings and crimes have claimed lives and left others injured.

In only a matter of days, local barber Johnny Trailer Jr. was fatally shot at the business where he worked, a woman was injured by gunfire while sitting in a vehicle on Griggs Avenue, and a juvenile driver is facing a negligent homicide charge after 17-year-old passenger Terry Mitchell was killed in a single-vehicle crash.

With such crime and violence, Rev. Lawrence Levy III with Freedom World Ministry church is calling for an Acadiana-wide prayer revival. 

“It doesn't matter how big or small your church is. I'm literally asking and begging for all of us to come together, at least for one day. It would be beautiful if we could do two,” he said.

“Let me tell you why. Because what's going on in Acadiana is bigger than Blacks killing Blacks. It's bigger than just petty crime. It is something that we all have to face and we all have to put our hands in and I believe that it starts with the people of God," he said.

He said the prayer revival is to save the city. 

“Not save a person, save a neighborhood, or save a family. It’s to save a city,” Levy said.

“...If you want to see God move, you want to see these children put guns down and begin to do something different. It starts with us unifying," he continued.

He said the death of Trailer devastated him because he was a brother and friend to him.

“It broke me. I mean, almost every murder breaks me, but that broke me because that was my friend. That was my brother. That wasn’t just somebody in Lafayette. He was a great man and that broke me," he said.

While the Acadiana-wide prayer revival idea is being put out, Levy said a location has not yet been set. He suggested if local school systems get involved, it could be held at a football field.

“I don't care where we go as long as we can get it done. I can't do it by myself," he said.

He emphasized that the sooner the revival can be done, the better.

“This needs to be done ASAP. We don't have 2025. The holidays are coming. I don't know if anybody is paying attention, but during the holidays crime escalates. So we need to do this right now," he said.
