The Welshman was in control of the match, leading 5-0 when a bizarre incident occurred.

Williams brilliantly potted the black and sent the white ball rolling towards a group of reds.

But referee Leo Scullion made an unusual error as he accidentally picked up the white and moved it to the black’s position.

The official meant to reach into the pocket and put the black back on the table.

But as he grabbed the wrong ball, Williams gasped: “Woah, woah, what are you doing?”

Scullion swiftly noticed his mistake and then discussed with the three-time world champion where to put the white back down.

The ref was heard asking his opponent: “Are you happy, Jimmy?”

Despite the never-seen-before mistake, Williams recomposed himself to win 6-0.

He is set to face Si Jiahui in the semi-finals tonight, with Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy going head-to-head in the other match.

Scullion’s error is not the only refereeing drama seen at the Saudi Arabia Masters this week.

In a crucial deciding frame, a foul was called on Ding Junhui after the tip of his cue flew off and hit a red ball.

The Chinese player went on to lose the match to Stuart Bingham.
