‘Wickedly smart’ J.D. Vance accused of hiding brains for Trump ticket

‘Wickedly smart’ J.D. Vance is an eloquent and accomplished politician who lacks one essential attribute — charm, writes Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker.

Yet she slammed the Republican vice presidential hopeful for dumbing down his credentials to put himself on running mate Donald Trump’s level.

Parker began her takedown by comparing Vance favorably to his Democratic Party equivalent Gov. Tim Walz (MN).

“Walz is a high school football coach and teacher who became a governor but, as he has said, uses poor grammar — if, in some people’s view, charmingly," she wrote.

“Republican J.D. Vance is a wickedly smart Yale Law School graduate and celebrated author who speaks cogently but lacks charm. And manners, to put it charitably.”

She added, “What kind of person, other than Donald Trump, says aloud whatever cheap shot pops into their brain without any attempt to self-edit? Let me guess: a jerk.”

“Vance is everything Trump is but maybe worse because he knows better (I think).”

Parker, who admits to being a fan of Vance’s book “Hillbilly Elegy,” says Vance’s gaffes — particularly his comments about “childless cat ladies” — made him appear downright rude.

And she said he was too intelligent to do that without a cause.

“I’m pretty sure Vance merely wanted to prove that he’s as much a jerk as Trump, the man he rather suddenly reveres,” she wrote.

“ In this, he succeeded.”
