AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) - A year and a half after iconic actor and comedian Will Ferrell took over social media in the Amarillo area while visiting to film part of a documentary, Netflix dropped a trailer for the completed project and announced it will be available to view on Sept. 27.

Ferrell and longtime friend and former Saturday Night Live head writer Harper Steele will be the focus of "Will & Harper," according to Netflix, in a documentary focused on a cross-country road trip taken after Harper's coming out as transgender.

During the documentary's filming in March 2023, Ferrell and the production crew spent a weekend in the Amarillo area making stops at local haunts such as The Big Texan Steak Ranch, Mexico Lindo, and Clothez Exchange.

Photos on The Big Texan Steak Ranch’s social media page highlighted that their “interesting” weekend included Ferrell appearing in a Sherlock Holmes costume and being seen eating the establishment’s iconic 72-ounce steak. Ferrell was also spoken of positively by the employees of Mexico Lindo, where he personally thanked the chef. Further, he was warmly welcomed by the staff of Clothez Exchange, who he spoke to briefly about the documentary project at a time when details were otherwise sparse.

Netflix announced that "Will & Harper" will hit select theaters in September and be available on its website on Sept. 27. The documentary also had its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday.
