TK Maxx – the high street retailer where shoppers can bag designer gear on the cheap.

But did you know there’s an easy way to purchase the items for even less?

The former employee, who claimed to have worked at TK Maxx for five years, quit last November and has since been spilling the beans about the brand’s ‘secrets’

According to one former employee, TK Maxx customers can slash the total bill simply by asking – it’s really that simple.

The ex-worker, only known as Patience, took to TikTok to spill the beans on the easy cash-saving hack that’s sure to come in handy next time you’re popping into the discount favourite.

The 23-year-old, from Manchester, worked at the store for five years before quitting last November and has since been sharing secrets about the popular retailer.

Informing fellow shoppers and thrifty fashionistas, Patience explained the difference between the red and yellow tickets – and how these could save you money.

Whilst red stickers typically mean that the item ”has stayed in the shop for too long and it’s getting marked down”, its yellow twin indicates the goodie is ”on final clearance and on the end of its sell-by date, and it needs to be gotten rid of”.

”If it hasn’t been bought by the time it gets to, like, 50p, […] we throw it out,” she revealed the process in the video, explaining how you can use it to your advantage.

”Let’s say you’re in skincare and you see something is on red clearance – usually they don’t like to give discounts on red clearance.

”But if you can see that there’s something similar that’s slightly cheaper, you can be like ‘Oh, I saw this – are they two the same price?’

”If they’re saying ‘Oh no, this one’s been in the shop for a bit longer, they’re two different codes’, you can kind of haggle them down.”

According to the ex-employee, the staff will typically ”give in and just give you the discount”.

Previously, Patience also spilled the beans on how shoppers can allegedly return practically anything, even without a receipt – apart from one item.

She claimed that if you bought something three months ago but haven’t been using it, you can go to TK Maxx and show a bank statement with something purchased within the last month.

According to former worker, as long as the total is the same and the purchase has been made in the last four weeks or so, the staff will issue a refund.

How Does TK Maxx Flog Designer for Cheap?

  • TK Maxx follows an off-price business model to get designer products for cheap
  • It buys merchandise from various brands and designers at a discount and then sells it to customers at lower prices than traditional retail stores
  • The selection at its outlets often includes overstocked items, last season’s styles and goods from cancelled orders.
  • The Gold Label is a premium collection of designer and luxury products offered by TK Maxx.
  • If you love designer clothes, this is the tag you want to look out for on pieces.

”We’ll accept that. Guys, when I tell you they don’t even give a heck – […] they’ve got 16-year-ols running the tills. Like, they don’t know anything that’s happening there.”

She added: ”Guys, when I say anything, I mean anything. You can return underwear, you can return shoes, you can return pots that you’ve used, you can return blenders – you can return anything.”

However, there is one item the shop is ”very strict on” when it comes returning – and that’s earrings.

Fellow TK Maxx fans flocked to comments, where one mum wrote: ”Yes! My son lost a tag and they looked up and marked up the price, I said I knew it was cheaper.

”Found the tag when I was in the car so walked myself back and got the difference.”

Another thanked for the handy information, writing: ”I am here for it cause it’s my favourite store EVER. An obsession.”
