Nikola Zigic- FEA99% of these shows people rave about I watch and enjoy. The Sopranos, The Wire, Succession and Mad Men I would say are the best examples of TV ever made, for instance. Band of Brothers, Better Call Saul also very good etc.
Comedy is a bit different, I found Always Sunny to just be really screechy, annoying and generally trying a bit too hard. I'm sure I'm in the minority given how popular it is.
Generally don't like that much American comedy anyway, I enjoyed Seinfeld but I just don't think they do comedy as well as us. Off the top of my head, This Country is funnier than any American comedy I've watched for a long time.
The Office is a good example, the American one gets better when it stops trying to be British but then it just stops being as funny to me.
I don't know Mythic Quest, I'll have a look. I also need to watch Twin Peaks at some point.
I don't think you are in the minority. It's an acquired taste, it's an FX show not mainstream. It has enough people like it, not a majority. I don't think it's fair to compare to drama series like you have though.
Seinfeld is it's most similar comedy as all the characters are designed to be bad people like Seinfeld.
I do get the screechy thing, they lean into that though. It's meant to annoy you as again it shows that they are ridiculous and bad people.
It tackles subjects and issues that no other comedies do though. Race, politics, climate change, drugs, gun control etc.
