The BBC has announced that the BAFTA award-winning drama is set to make a comeback in December.

A new series of Casualty will officially be launched with a special to air on Christmas Day.

A specially-filmed teaser trailer was previously filmed to reveal the news.

The cryptic clip was played to viewers on BBC One at the end of tonight’s series finale.

According to the corporation, the special episode will, “celebrate the gift of giving.”

Bosses also promise that the story will be told in an ‘innovative [and] format-breaking way.”

Details are currently thin on the ground about the plot and what is due to come at the end of the year.

However, the show has promised that more details will be revealed in due course.

This comes after Casualty underwent a huge schedule shake-up this weekend with a gripping double bill.

The medical drama has been a firm favourite with BBC viewers since it first made its debut in 1986.

Tonight, fans got double the amount of action from Holby City hospital with two episodes airing on BBC One.

The first instalment was first screened at 8.25pm, which was followed by the later edition at 9:15pm.
