Turkish president urges Islamic nations to unite against Israel amid rising tensions

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for a unified stance among Islamic countries against Israel, stating that unity is the only way to halt the ongoing conflict.

Erdoğan made these remarks during a speech at an Islamic schools association event near Istanbul, one day after the death of a Turkish-American citizen in the West Bank at the hands of Israeli soldiers.

The Turkish President also highlighted recent efforts by Turkey to improve relations with Egypt and Syria, aiming to create a united front against Israeli expansionism, which he claims also threatens Lebanon and Syria.

Last week, Erdoğan hosted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Ankara. Their meeting marked the first presidential visit between the two countries in 12 years, focusing on the Gaza conflict and ways to further repair long-standing bilateral relations.

This renewed engagement follows Turkey’s diplomatic efforts in 2020 to reduce tensions with regional rivals, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, local media in Gaza report that at least 61 Palestinians have been killed in the past 48 hours due to Israeli attacks on various parts of Gaza.

As the conflict in Gaza enters its eleventh month, diplomatic efforts have yet to achieve a ceasefire, secure the release of hostages held by Hamas, or facilitate the freedom of Palestinian prisoners in Israel.

Erdoğan’s call for unity among Islamic nations underscores the ongoing international debate over the Gaza conflict. Despite diplomatic initiatives, the situation remains dire, highlighting the urgent need for effective solutions to address both the humanitarian crisis and regional tensions.
