The One Show star opens up on difficult decision to end hit show with parents

MATT Baker has opened up about making a ‘tough’ decision to end his hit show with his parents, Janice and Mike. 

During the first episode of Matt Baker: Travels with Mum and Dad saw the family head to the Northumberland County Show.

The family got to see what it takes to put on the massive event and Janice even entered their two dogs into a competition.

The former One Show presenter and his family are no strangers to the spotlight having worked on Matt Baker’s Our Farm in the Dales.

In an interview with The Daily Express, Matt discussed his love for working with his parents and the tough decision they had to make during filming.

He said: “The key with it is they [his parents] are always close to home because obviously, having a farm you can’t go far.

“And plus, with the dad being like 80, the reality of them planning to go on some sort of adventure was never going to be the case.”

The TV show presenter said he hoped that his show would inspire viewers and encourage families to plan day trips that include every generation.

He said: “We’re not going abroad, and it’s actually really relatable, and hopefully, from my generation’s perspective, I’m kind of inspiring people to take the older members of their family out, to get these new experiences and to have fun and just to be together and experience stuff that they wouldn’t really do themselves.”

But despite the success of the show, Matt has not committed to another series.

He told the paper his latest series was a “natural end of a chapter”.

The star further explained: “So that’s why we didn’t sort of decide to stop filming it, it’s just the end of that process.

“It was a real, natural, end of that chapter, so that’s why we haven’t done any more.”

Turning his attention to Our Farm in the Dales, Matt didn’t rule out another series.

He said he was surprised at the show’s success, attributing it to its portrayal of not only the romantic side of farming but also its tough realities.

The TV star added that it was important for viewers to witness the difficult family decisions being made, including his mother’s choice to change the farm’s direction.

Matt revealed that he had received thousands of messages from viewers praising the show, with many finding it a source of comfort.
