'Absolute lunatic': MSNBC panel slams media's 'sane-washing' of Trump's 'word salads'

Donald Trump is increasingly rambling and giving non-answers to policy questions, and the media isn't up to the task of covering him, according to a panel on MSNBC on Sunday.

On Ayman over the weekend, the host played several videos of Trump giving confusing answers to questions about specific legislation issues, calling them "word salads." In one now-viral speech, Trump suggests tariffs are the answer to skyrocketing costs in child care.

The ex-president said in part, "Well, I will do that and we're sitting down, you know, I was, uh, somebody, we had Sen. Marco Rubio and my daughter Ivanka were so, uh, impactful on that issue, it's a very important issue, but I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I'm talking about that because childcare is childcare is couldn't, you know, is something you have to have it in this country, you have to have it."

Reporter Molly Jong-Fast quoted independent journalist Aaron Rupar as saying the media is "sane-washing" Trump, and Tara Setmayer, a senior advisor for anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project and a former Republican congressional staffer, agreed with that analysis.

Setmayer further called Trump an "absolute lunatic," and said his recent speeches and Truth Social posts have been devolving.
