Photo Review: Mid-West Drag Racing Series Martin 2024

The Mid-West Drag Racing Series reached the halfway point of its 2024 Season at US 131 Raceway Park in conjunction with the 20th Annual Funny Car Nationals. Racers were treated to rare conditions as temperatures struggled to get out of the 50s and corrected altitudes were less than 1000 feet for most of the weekend. Several racers took advantage of the rare air by running personal bests or resetting records. From here, the series moves to the Smackdown at Flying H in two weeks with a payout of $150,000 for the pro mod win. Photo highlights by Dave Oakes

Mark Micke had quite the weekend. Took the delayed win from St. Louis, qualified #1 3.56-214.90, won this event over Aaron Wells, and lowered the pro mod record to an amazing 3.556-229.94!

Tim Paap, in his little red Corvette, led top sportsman qualifying at 3.84-191.33.

Brian Hough made his visit to Martin worthwhile with a number 1 qualifying spot at 3.577-214.90.

Anita Strasburg wheeled her J&A Service top dragster to the top of qualifying at 3.65-199.38.

Jared Ledford took home the Icon Pistons Top Dragster win over Wade Pennington.

Jim Whiteley defeated defending class champion Steve Macklyn 3.59 – 3.86 for the J&A Service Funny Car Crown.

Jim Hayes’ multi-colored Corvette took home the Performance Bearings Top Sportsman win over Jon Vesper.

While Steve Macklyn lost to Whiteley, he found traction to his liking with power wheelstands to the 100-foot mark.

The Pro Mod Slammers title went to Dennis Hagedon in his Mopar.
