Evacuations still in effect at Boyles Fire near Clearlake

Fire crews fighting a wildfire burning near Clearlake in Lake County had contained 30% of the fire as sunrise arrived Monday and had kept it below 100 acres, according to a statement from Cal Fire.

The Boyles Fire has forced evacuations to about 4,000 residents in areas along state Highway 53 beginning near Dam Road and moving north to 24th Avenue in that county. Evacuation warnings also remained in effect north of 24th Avenue.

Those being evacuated were urged to go to the Twin Pines Casino, located at 22223 CA-29 in Middletown.

The blaze has destroyed 50 vehicles, according to Cal Fire, and the agency also said about 30 structures were involved. Crews were inspecting those homes to see the damage they incurred.

According to Cal Fire, the blaze has burned 76 acres. The number of total acres burned actually decreased from Sunday to Monday, but there was no explanation immediately from Cal Fire officials for why that total changed.

State fire officials said the forward progress of the fire has not been stopped. It broke out Sunday about 2:45 p.m.
