NYPD removes Palestinian flag hanging from Williamsburg Bridge

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) ---- Authorities removed a Palestinian flag that was hanging from the top of the Williamsburg Bridge on Monday, police said.

Officers from the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit were seen scaling the cable leading to the Brooklyn Tower of the span to take the flag down at around 8:30 a.m., according to the NYPD and Citizen App video.

It was unclear when the flag was placed on the bridge. No other information was available.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Last week, thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters flooded some of the busiest areas in New York City on Labor Day, according to Citizen App videos.

The crowds gathered in Union Square and Washington Square Park before marching along Fifth Avenue up to the New York Public Library, according to videos of the scenes. The protesters were waving flags and signs supporting the Palestinians.

“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” the protesters chanted.
