How to Layer Like a Bottega Model This Fall
Fur Collars
To create a look like the ones featured at the Courrèges show, start with a tight hoodie or balaclava, then put a faux-fur-trim (ideally leather) jacket on top.
Counterbalance the fullness of the jacket with sleek wraparound glasses. Even better if they’re rimless.
High Collars
Begin with a classic collared shirt buttoned all the way up. A colorful one will pop against a neutral coat and gold jewelry.
Then add a geometric necklace and wear it over your coat’s collar.
Slung Sweaters
If you want to try a maximalist shawl look, tie a jersey sweatshirt across your body diagonally rather than just slinging a crewneck sweater over your shoulders. And wear a thin, bright top underneath.
Accessorize with an embellishment to add something unexpected to an otherwise-casual outfit.
Two Tights
Try a layered version of the no-pants trend by wearing two pairs of tights underneath microshorts.
For best results, put some brightly colored stirrup leggings over tights in a muted hue. Otherwise, wear neutral tones.
Blue Gloves
Start with a neutral turtleneck, then put a crisp button-up shirt on top. Add an even brighter sweater before layering on your heavy coat.
The gloves should be worn over your outermost layer instead of tucked under your shirt (you can scrunch them up).
Miuccia Prada and Demna went with elbow-length gloves this season.
Fluffy Gloves
Begin by combining two aesthetics: a sporty windbreaker and a preppy cardigan.
A monochromatic palette will make the look feel cohesive. Slip in a layer with a subtle print if you want to top off the whole thing with furry gloves. The print will balance them out.
Bag Charms
Pile charms in various shapes, colors, and textures onto a bag that has a relaxed silhouette; the weight of them will create movement.
Then tie a neutral-toned scarf around the strap because why not?
Triple Layers
In general, the key to wearing several layers without looking sloppy is to start with a formfitting base. Two turtlenecks are a good option for layers one and two (as long as the bottom layer peeks out ever so slightly).
As for three and four: a blue shirt and a red nylon jacket for contrast in texture and color.
Since each layer is somewhat soft and billowy, the jewelry should be sculptural.
Peekaboo Skirts
For a Simone Rocha–ish look, layer a longline waistcoat over a maxi dress for a peekaboo effect. Then slip on a soft, flowy skirt with a stiff top and a structured coat.
Pair a cream skirt with white lace tights.
