Israeli strikes kill 40 in Gaza humanitarian zone, officials

An Israeli airstrike on a designated humanitarian zone in the Gaza Strip has resulted in the deaths of at least 40 people and injured 60 others, according to Palestinian authorities.

The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted “significant Hamas terrorists” operating from a command-and-control center. They used precise munitions and aerial surveillance for the operation, as reported by Inews.

Residents and medics reported that the strike hit a tent encampment near Khan Younis in the Al-Mawasi area. At least four missiles were fired at the site.

The encampment housed displaced Palestinians who had fled other parts of Gaza, believing it to be a safe area as per Israeli guidance.

Aid organizations have faced difficulties providing necessary care in the camp, compounding the crisis for the displaced population.

The agency reported that Khaled Mahmoud, a local charity volunteer, expressed shock at the devastation caused by the strike.

Nearly all of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced at least once, with some having fled their homes as many as 10 times.

The strike has intensified the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where conditions were already dire due to ongoing conflict and displacement.

International reactions and calls for an investigation are expected as the situation deteriorates.

The conflict underscores the urgent need for a resolution to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians affected by the violence in the region.
