Work to cut wait times at citizens service centre

The Nicosia citizens’ service centre on Athalassa Avenue has acknowledged ongoing delays in serving the public and said on Tuesday it is taking steps to improve the situation.

Despite efforts, service times remain below the expected standard, an issue that prompted the department to introduce several measures to enhance efficiency.

One of the key initiatives is the planned expansion and redesign of the service area at the Athalassa Avenue centre.

“This will increase the available space and introduce a queue management system, which is expected to streamline the process and ensure a more organised flow of visitors,” the department said.

Additionally, to ease pressure on the main office, the department is preparing to open three new service centres in rural parts of the Nicosia district. These will provide residents with easier access to services and help alleviate congestion at the Athalassa Avenue centre.

In addition, Nicosia district self governance organisation (EOA) is also developing a digital platform that will allow people to complete a wide range of tasks carried out at citizens’ centres remotely.

In the meantime, the department urged people to visit the service centre only when necessary, as many services, such as water bill payments, can already be processed through the centre’s website.

“While improvements are underway, the department is asking for patience and cooperation from the public as it works to enhance its service delivery,” it said.
