Man, 43, dead after pickup truck rear ends stopped car in east Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A 43-year-old man is dead after a stopped sedan was rear-ended by a pickup truck Monday night in east Columbus.

Columbus police said that a Chevrolet Impala stopped on the southbound lane of Stelzer Road near the East 5th Avenue intersection after being disabled at 10:30 p.m. The driver and the passenger, 43-year-old David Ford, exited the vehicle.

While Ford was standing near the driver's side door, the driver of the Impala stood on the concrete median. At 10:36 p.m., a Chevrolet Silverado was going south on Stelzer Rd. and hit the back of the Impala.

After the collision, the driver of the Silverado fled from the crash scene on foot but was found by officers at the 3200 block of Allegheny Avenue, just half-a-mile away from the intersection. Police did not indicate if the driver is facing charges. Columbus police is continuing to investigate the crash.
