Doocy presses Harris aide for VP to do Fox News interview

Fox News host Steve Doocy implored Ian Sams, a top aide to Vice President Harris, to facilitate an interview between the Democratic nominee for president and his network.

"It looks like — so, she did that interview about a week or so ago with CNN, and she's going to do the one debate that we know of. Is there any possibility — you know, you keep talking about Fox New viewers: She should come on Fox and speak to their concerns directly," Doocy told Sams as he appeared on "Fox and Friends" on Tuesday. "And we've got a big couch here. It would be great to have her on the program, Ian. Come on, invite her. Tell her I officially invited her on 'Fox and Friends.'"

"That's very kind," Sams replied. "And I will relay that to the vice president for sure. And I know, you know, she's talked at the White House a number of times to Peter Doocy and Jacqui Heinrich, you know, excellent reporters who are there at the White House."

White House correspondent Peter Doocy is the son of Steve Doocy, one of Fox's longest-running hosts on its flagship morning talk show.

Sams teased that Harris will "be doing more events across the country," noting planned stops in North Carolina and Pennsylvania after Tuesday night's debate with former President Trump.

"She's going to be doing more interviews," Sams added. "She's going to be doing more events where she can engage directly with voters and talk to them."

Doocy pressed him a second time to bring Harris on "Fox and Friends."

"She shouldn't be afraid of — bring her on 'Fox and Friends.' You know, if she can't talk to us, God forbid how she deals with Putin," the host quipped.

"We ain't afraid of 'Fox and Friends,'" Sams shot back. "I'm sitting here talking to you right now."

Trump and his allies in conservative media have for weeks been ramping up pressure on Harris to engage in more media interviews and unscripted moments.

Tuesday night's debate on ABC is widely seen as a potential watershed moment for the 2024 campaign, which was upended earlier this summer following President Biden's shaky performance in the first debate with Trump, which led to him dropping out of the race and being replaced by Harris.
