The incident has become politically charged, with Republicans assigning blame for the chaotic exit from the decades-long Afghan conflict squarely upon President Biden. The Biden administration has maintained that it was following through on plans laid out by former President Trump.

The ceremony is slated to take place on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. EDT.
