Taylor Swift’s Noticeable Silence Might Be Fueling a Donald Trump Problem With Swifties

Taylor Swift finds herself in an awkward position right now with some members of her very loyal fanbase. The Swifties, who have grown into a multigenerational group of supportive fans, are asking for some clarification when it comes to her political position in the 2024 presidential election.

The first hint that there was trouble was when her Kansas City bestie Brittany Mahomes showed support for Donald Trump’s 2024 GOP platform by liking one of his Instagram posts. While many friends can easily coexist with differing political views, it’s Swift’s words in her 2020 documentary, Miss Americana, that might be coming back to bite her. “I need to be on the right side of history,” she said while tweeting her support for Tennessee Democratic candidate Phil Bredesen for Senate against his Republican opponent, Marsha Blackburn.

Her subsequent callout of Donald Trump’s behavior in 2020 also set up the expectations that a Kamala Harris endorsement should be on the horizon. “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump,” she wrote on X. But, ever since her A-list status exploded into the stratosphere from the Eras Tour, coupled with her romance with Travis Kelce, Swift has been unusually silent — and some fans don’t like it.

“I don’t think taylor swift is a republican but i do think she’s an out of touch democrat billionaire who believes that you can separate politics from relationships because she will be protected from everything,” wrote one Swiftie on X. Another account added, “She’s still heheing with Brittany Mahomes… didn’t denounce Trump using her likeness… she spelling it out for y’all.” Writer Yashar Ali thinks the whole situation has gone too far, noting, “The obsession over Taylor Swift and whether or not she’s going to endorse Kamala Harris has truly gone overboard into some sort of psychosis.”

In 2020, Swift’s endorsement of Joe Biden didn’t happen until early October, so there’s still time in the political race. She could be plotting something behind the scenes with Kamala Harris’ team, but Swift might have also decided to sit this one out. Politics is a heated topic, but Swifties have made it very clear that they don’t want Donald Trump entering the equation — or the White House — ever again.
