"Conman" sentenced to 5 years probation for stealing life savings from victim

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Getzville man was sentenced Tuesday morning to five years probation for stealing $450,000 in life savings from a woman over the course of four years, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

Victor Marinaccio, 66, befriended the victim and misrepresented himself to obtain her life savings.

Between July 2018 and August 2022, Marinaccio used her credit cards and conducted wire transfers to steal around $450,000. He then used the money for travel and other personal expenses, the DA's office said.

Wanted on an indictment warrant, Marinaccio was found by the secret service in Las Vegas. In September 2022, he was returned to Western New York to face prosecution.

Marinaccio pleaded guilty to second-degree grand larceny in May. He agreed to pay $250,000 in restitution upfront to the victim and signed a confession of judgment to pay an additional $200,000 at a later date.

A final order of protection for the victim and her family remain in effect until Sept. 2032.
