CREATE A BASE: Perfume and aftershave work best on well-hydrated bare skin.

Use a fragrance-free moisturiser on your skin before spritzing your scent.

Try Morrisons own-brand moisturising body lotion, £1.50, as a base.

PICK YOUR SPOT: Strategically spray to help your fragrance last all day long. There are up to 11 places you can spritz, according to L’Oreal, but choose two or three to spread out the scent.

Pulse points are the best spots as they are where your skin is warmest, so it will activate the fragrance and help it to develop throughout the day.

Most people know about the wrists and neck, but the inside of your elbows, behind your ears, and the back of your knees are also pulse points.

Fabric typically holds on to scents longer than the skin so it is worth giving your outfit a spray, too. The exception is with material that can stain or discolour, such as silk.

NON-SCENTS: There are a few common mistakes people make when applying perfume. If you put it on your wrists avoid rubbing them together as this can make the scent fade faster. And don’t spritz perfume and walk through the mist, as this will make the overall scent weak.

Instead aim for a distance of around 15cm when spraying.

You also should not spray perfume on your hair because the alcohol can damage locks.

STORE IT RIGHT: Sunlight and heat can affect the ingredients so avoid keeping it by windows or in the bathroom where temperatures can fluctuate.

The best place to keep your perfume is in a cool, dark place with a room temperature between 16 and 22C.
