Jamie Robinson is the person behind the TikTok account Jail Tales.
He has managed to earn 135,000 on TikTok while he also has an impressive 149,000 on Instagram as of September 2024.
He has been to prison himself and has been open about his time inside.
Jamie told The independent: “The first time I went to court for battery I was 12-years-old. When I was 13, 14 and 15-years-old everyone told me I was going to prison but I didn’t believe them.
“If I had seen the real impact of prison on people, like I’m showing now, I might’ve known the reality.
“When young people see you can go to prison for things like rent arrears or other crimes that you just don’t think you can go to prison for, it makes them think twice and keeps them out of trouble.”
What content does he create?
Jamie visits prisons across the UK where he stands at the gates and speaks to those who have been released.
He chats to them about the reason they were serving time, for how long and how they have found it being in jail.
He then ends by asking them to “stay out of trouble” in the future.
Jamie first started out making the videos in his hometown of Preston but has now travelled all over the UK.
What is the reason for him making these videos?
Jamie has said he wants to make the videos to deter people from going to prison.
He also said that he wants to show the public that they should be giving former prisoners a chance.
He added: “People always ask if I’m scared to approach the inmates but I’ve spent years in jail. Nothing like that bothers me and I’ve never once had a problem with people coming out.
“I think everyone deserves a chance. I take everyone at face value and I believe that just because someone has been in prison, that doesn’t mean they’re a bad person.”
Jamie has said he has already received a positive response from those watching his posts.
He has been sent messages from people thanking him for bringing awareness, to those who may fall into a life of crime.
“I’ve had an unbelievable response to the videos. I’ve had hundreds of people message me to tell me I’ve helped them and to thank me for showing the reality of going to prison. My inbox is flooded,” he said.
