Emma Roberts Wasn't Allowed to Audition for 'The O.C.'

Emma Roberts is revealing a role she missed earlier in her career.

The 33-year-old Scream Queens actress interviewed Grace Van Patten for Nylon about Season 2 of Tell Me Lies, out now on Hulu.

As the show’s executive producer, who originally brought the novel the show is based on to Hulu as part of a first-look deal, Emma spoke to Grace about the series, but also shared something surprising.

“I used to rewatch The OC before the next season dropped because I’m like, ‘I have to go back and understand every single thing,’” Emma recalled, to which Grace said of their show: “It really does feel like modern-day The OC.”

“I love The OC. I wasn’t allowed to watch it when it aired,” Emma continued.

“My mom wouldn’t let me watch it because she thought it was inappropriate. I remember at one point, they wanted me to audition to play Marissa Cooper’s little sister, and my mom wouldn’t let me. I’m still mad at her to this day. Anyway, we digress.”
