‘So this is insane!’ mum trolled for boarding long-haul flight when baby has temperature of 40 & ‘choosing £3k over him’
A COUPLE have come under fire after taking their sick baby on a long-haul flight.
The pair travelled from the United States to Thailand despite their son’s high temperature.
In her now viral video, TikTok user Alina (@alinamotherhpod) recounted the trip for her followers.
The young mum explained that “hours before” her family was due to board the overnight flight, her young son began to feel ill.
Her one-year-old registered a temperature of “almost 40” at the airport.
She explained that they managed to “bring down” the temperature shortly before they were due to take off.
While the couple contemplating postponing their trip, they said their tickets, which had cost them the equivalent of £2,200, were non-refundable.
They decided to board their flight, hoping that their son could “rest and recover” during the eight-hour journey.
However, Alina reported that the “flight turned out to be difficult” and their son “kept waking up and crying.”
She described how she and her husband were “squeezed like a lemon” trying to soothe their baby during the journey.
However, TikTok users were less than sympathetic to the parents’ situation.
Many viewers pointed out how dangerous it was to take the sick child on a plane.
“Hey so this is insane! What did you think what would happen when you landed?” asked one unimpressed follower.
“My sons health is worth more than £3,000, it’s priceless but that’s just me!” said another parent.
“My baby is sick, I know, I’ll get on a plane so if he needs emergency attention we can’t do anything,” commented a third person.
“The baby is sick but you choose to go on holiday because you don’t want to your [money] to go to waste?” asked another TikTok user.
“Good job, life of my kiddo is worth more than £2,000,” wrote one mum.
Rules for boarding a flight when sick
Medical Repatriation UK revealed the guidelines for travelling and illnesses.
The CDC advises against travelling if:

- You have recently had a heart attack or stroke.
- You are traveling with a newborn.
- You have recently experienced stomach, eye, or head trauma.
- You have recently undergone surgery, particularly orthopedic or brain surgery.
- You are in your 36th week of pregnancy or 32nd if you are having more than one baby.
- You are experiencing chest pain, collapsed lung, sickle cell anemia, severe chronic respiratory diseases, severe ear, sinus, or nose infections, or brain swelling caused by bleeding, injury or infection.
- You are suffering from an infectious disease that is easily transmissible such as chickenpox, flu, or Covid-19.
- You have a temperature of 37.7°C or higher.
- You are experiencing a skin rash, persistent diarrhea, persistent severe cough, your skin and eyes are turning yellow, you have difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, you are persistently vomiting not due to motion sickness, or you have noticeable signs of illness, such as weakness and headache.
“My daughter had a 40 fever as a young baby and spent a week in hospital, so frightening, certainly wouldn’t have boarded a flight. She was so ill,” said another viewer.
“He was waking up and crying cuz he was in pain,” pointed out one follower.
“Same situation, same airport. £5,000 in flights but my kids health is more important. Your decision though,” wrote another commenter.
“40 degrees is a hospital admission! Not a flight to Thailand,” commented one person.
“So what would you have done if his fever got worse mid flight and he had febrile seizures or something?” asked another viewer.
