CNN anchor on debate: Trump 'struggling with putting sentences together'

At Tuesday night's presidential debate, CNN anchor Abby Phillip pointed out that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's mental capacity appeared diminished when compared to earlier campaigns.

Before the big event, Phillip responded to CNN contributor Chris Wallace's observation that Trump did not talk like a politician.

"But just like if you go back and you watch old videos of Joe Biden and those old debates, the Donald Trump of today is not the Donald Trump of yesteryear," she explained. "And he has slowed down himself in a lot of ways. He's not as quick on his feet."

"He doesn't talk like a politician, but it makes a lot less sense than even compared to four years ago," the CNN anchor said. "And that is part of the dynamic that will be much more pronounced on the stage tonight than it was with Biden because of how Biden really, really struggled."

"Trump is struggling. He's struggling with putting sentences together, with making points make sense."

Phillip noted that Trump also struggled at the debate with President Joe Biden earlier this year.

"It just wasn't the number one thing that people noticed because something else was happening on that debate stage," she remarked.
