Shenendehowa to stop using 'Plainsmen' nickname
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Shenendehowa Board of Education voted on a proposal Tuesday to end the use of the Plainsmen nickname.
The district had already changed its mascot from an Indigenous person to a horse before New York State officials required all public schools to eliminate mascots and team names with Native American imagery.
The district previously argued the name is a reference to the land patent that the Shen campus was built on.
