Pezeshkian signs 14 cooperation agreement during visit to Iraq
On Wednesday, September 11, Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the Prime Minister of Iraq, signed 14 cooperation agreements in Baghdad.
They also called for an “end to the genocide” in Gaza. During his first official three-day foreign trip, Pezeshkian met with the President of Iraq and advocated for removing borders between Islamic countries, similar to the European Union.
The main discussion topics during Pezeshkian’s visit included a joint security agreement, cooperation in refining industries, energy, and the private sector.
Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of establishing transportation lines and mentioned that his government is working on finalizing memorandums of understanding and implementing the Basra-Shalamcheh railway.
According to IRNA, the 14 agreements cover economic, agricultural, educational, cultural, artistic, and cooperation between chambers of commerce.
Pezeshkian will also visit some Iranian companies’ projects in Basra and, at the official invitation of Kurdish Regional Government officials, travel to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq.
Before he visited Iraq, the Iranian President stated that based on policies previously announced by Ali Khamenei, he aims to foster close relations with Muslim neighbours and enhance economic, political, and social cooperation.
Pezeshkian expressed hope that the beginning of his visit to Iraq would help resolve issues that have previously arisen with Islamic countries.
